Woe is me...

Week 30. I know it's only been a few days since my last post, but I've got to tell ya, PREGNANT really sunk in today. 30 weeks pregnant that is... A completely different beast than week 14 pregnant or even week 27 pregnant.

Sunday, I was starving after church. Ten bites into my lunch I was overcome by extreme fullness. My inner physician decided that it was a result of this baby growing so much, that he's overtaking every nook & cranny available, which consequently effects how much I can eat/drink. As I made my way to the car I felt as though I'd been at an all you can eat buffet & over indulged 4 times over... I was MISERABLY full. So as I sat in the passenger seat, I decided to take my shoes off because week 30 also brought the lovely gift of swollen feet. Michael & my dear friend Angie so kindly pointed out the noticeable difference earlier in the week & since then, I swear all of my shoes magically shrunk.

Today I unknowingly made a poor shoe choice. I actually removed the laces from my shoes to try & improvise… ya no bueno. The shoe to foot ratio was not in my favor & I spent the day in my socks. After work I walked to my car in my shoes that were screaming “TAKE ME OFF NOW” to find that my loving husband secretly placed flip flops in the driver’s seat with this post-it note:

Spoiled, I know. He also woke up to get me gas this morning & surprised me with McDonald’s oatmeal, hot chocolate, & an Arizona Tea Mango Madness. Sorry to brag, but I LOVE my husband & appreciate his kind gestures, so he deserves MAJOR praise!

So week 30 has been the most challenging in my pregnancy, but my husband is doing his part to make it as comfortable & easy as possible. This week also brings my 30th birthday…funny right, but at this rate, 30 is going to be the BEST YEAR EVER!

XOXO,
Mel

Oh Baby!

As promised, we meet again! This past Saturday my sister & two of my best friends hosted my baby shower. It was a lot of fun getting everyone together to celebrate baby Marlon. He made out like a fat rat too!

Everything was wonderfully special. From the adorable diaper cakes to the delicious pineapple cake with raspberry filling to the cilantro cream & chicken chalupas to the monogrammed diaper bag to oddles of diapers to a beautifully hand crocheted blanket to a pack of Nike onsies to a crib to my dad trying to get Simone to make him some fried chicken to Michael's sister driving in from Temple to Morgan acting like my mini hostess to the hilarious tips from all the mommies…   I could go on & on. Michael was a super sport too, eating spoon fulls of random baby food & guessing the mystery flavors… I’m sorry but the green one would have been an automatic pass on my end.

We were missing Shawn Patrick at the shower, which would have made it an over the top event. He’s so excited for his “baby brother Marlon” & we know he's going to be a great big brother. Michael & I are starting to use the term “the boys” more & more frequently, so our home is going to be even more filled with love in just a couple of months.

This Friday marks 30 weeks into the pregnancy & I’ve got to be honest in telling you that I’m so anxious & so nervous at the same time! As much as we prepare for his arrival, I just know that we’re not going to be PREPARED…if that makes sense.

I have SO many questions & I just want to be great for him so I need you all to prepare for random, late night, personal questions about parenting cause I promise I’m going to need help & guidance!

XOXO,
Mel

Hellooooo world...

So here we are… 1st blog ever. Exciting, I know :)

Too much to share without getting a little long winded, but I promise from here on out I will show improvement. February was a huge month for Michael & me. I was blessed with an amazing proposal & wedding on the same day. February 13th, we were married by our Pastor in an impromptu ceremony.  We had been planning on getting married next summer, but after some guidance counseling from Bro. Love at our church we decided to make it official… his words, “if you know it’s right, why not make it right, right now”…and so we did.

There’s a lot to be excited for with this new chapter of our life together.  I am currently 26 weeks pregnant & little Marlon has been moving & a grooving. My belly is becoming noticeably BIG. I still have a long ways to go so I can only imagine how much BIGGER it will get. I’m already planning though, six weeks after delivery Spectrum Gym will become my newly acquainted long lost BESTEST friend… holler at your girl if you need a gym buddy. Yes.

We’ve been road warriors these past few weeks. We went to Temple to see Michael’s dad compete in the 35 & over state basketball tournament. While we were there, we also met up with Michael’s oldest sister Amber & her four kids! Michael hadn’t seen her in 5 years, so it was definitely great getting together, not to mention all of fun times Michael had shooting dice & cutting up with the players from his dad’s team.  The following weekend was the state tournament in Brownsville. Michael’s team was severely lacking players, but the fabulous 5 they had (including his 50 year old father who had a triple double) played with everything they had. Unfortunately it was refereed by a Borat lookalike that never needs to wear stripes & a whistle again in life unless he’s attending a Halloween party. This past weekend was the 6’ & under state tournament in Hurst, which was great basketball & unfortunately he lost in the Championship game. Overall the tournaments were fun little get away trips & Michael received All Tournament honors for both his tournaments. Yay! Go Daddy Go!  ß Shawn’s cheer for his daddy

Other than that we’ve just been enjoying each other’s company, getting active in our church, & preparing for the baby’s arrival. Spring Break is upon us now & this week is all about R&R & QT. We have Shawn for the entire Spring Break & we are so glad to have him here.  Michael started a new position managing the Pizza Hut call center, so SP & I will be sleeping in & napping & playing & eating…lol. Perfect, right?

My baby shower is just around the corner, so hopefully I’ll be posting again after such an exciting event!

XOXO from ours to yours,
Mel
